How often will I have to volunteer?
You could volunteer as little as one time for one hour after school at the school of your choice. If you'd like to do more, you would certainly be welcome to!Do I need to have a presentation prepared and ready?
No. We'll help you organize and prepare a presentation if you would like us to.
Will I be alone with the children?
No. Not only will the Try-it-Time organizer be in the room helping out, but we'll make sure there are enough adults in the room to make sure the children are focused and having fun safely.
How many children will be there?
Depending on the interest level the number at each presentation/event may vary.
Registration forms will be sent to families before your presentation so we know how many children will be there for you, and so we can know how many adults to have in the room with you. As the volunteer leading a presentation you can limit the number of spots available.
Is there a specific age group of children?
We would like to keep the events open to all grade school children. At Highland View this would mean 4-11, and at the other grade schools, this would mean 5-11. As the lead volunteer though, you may choose to limit the ages if your topic would be inappropriate for certain age groups.
Do I need to buy my own supplies?
Depending on what you need, I can help with supplies for you. We will have audio and visual equipment available at the schools to use, as well as tables and chairs, etc.
Where and when will the events be?
The events will be directly after school, in a room appropriate to the topic. (The gym for sporting events, the library or art room for craft or "learning" times for example.) We'll pick a date based on the volunteers' availability.
